wanna put your breast foot forward this month? try these 3 PINK recipes.

y’all are pretty smart, so we’re sure you already knew that certain foods are total powerhouses when it comes to preventing disease. we fully subscribe to the mantra “you are what you eat”. now that doesn’t mean we don’t indulge in moderation here + there, but when it comes to everyday eating, we like to get the highest nutrition bang for our buck. so to kick off breast cancer awareness month, we want to bring attention to the fact that nearly 1 in 7 women battle breast cancer. but did you know that 40% of breast cancer cases can be prevented by exercising + eating right? so, what better reason than to pair our do-gooder fitbook PINK (that gives back 20% of proceeds) with 3 pretty pink recipes (that pack a powerful cancer-fighting punch).

here are three easy recipes filled with nutrients that are totes awesome for those tatas:

truffle parmesan beet hummus]
that beautiful, ruby-red color you see the moment you cut open a beet? it’s all thanks to antioxidant compounds called betalains, which some studies suggest can help protect against cancer. in animal studies, beets seem to inhibit carcinogen formation, as well as increase immune-cell production to help prevent cancer cells from really forming in the first place. so we wanted to put all that beet-y brawn to good use with this heavenly hot-pink hummus. truffle parmesan anything?? we’re in!

1 beet, chopped + roasted
½ cup cooked cannellini beans
1 tbsp tahini
2-3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
¼ cup grated parmigiano-reggiano
1 tsp white truffle oil
sea salt to taste

  1. combine everything in a mini food processor + blend until smooth.
  2. top with another little drizzle of white truffle oil if desired + serve with your favorite raw veggies or crackers.

orange-butter baked salmon]
ok, so this one’s sliiiiightly more salmon than traditional pink, but it’s definitely all in the (color) family. besides, salmon is positively packed with disease-preventing omega-3 fats, which means that those who consume their fair share of it won’t be as at-risk for things like breast cancer. in fact, studies have shown that women who regularly consumed fish-oil supplements (which are loaded with omega-3s), had a 32-percent reduced risk of developing breast cancer. we know you fabulous fitbookers are all kinds of busy, so we wanted to provide you with a preparation that’s not only super simple, but full of flavor. the orange addition gives this moist salmon dish an unexpected citrusy sweetness.

1 salmon fillet
1 tbsp grass-fed butter
3-4 orange slices
sea salt to taste

  1. preheat the oven to 275.
  2. spread the butter on the salmon, season with sea salt + arrange the orange slices on top.
  3. bake about 20 minutes, or until cooked to your liking, then squeeze the extra juice all over the salmon before eating.

strawberry-coconut milkshake]
who says a healthy diet can’t include milkshakes?? this rosy-hued little head-turner harnesses the antioxidant strength of strawberries as the main flavor-driver. because in one recent study, lab mice with breast cancer tumors that were fed the equivalent of 15 strawberries per day showed great improvement in just five weeks - no metastasizing + there was even tumor shrinkage. a little tumor-stifling cauliflower added to the mix ups the cancer-fighting properties even further.

1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
¾ cup frozen strawberries
½ a frozen banana
½ cup frozen cauliflower
1 tbsp MCT oil
1 scoop collagen protein
½ tsp vanilla bean powder

  1. blend everything in a high-powered blender until smooth, then top with coconut cream.
