the smoothie bowl to cure your strawberry cravings

here at fitlosophy, you know we like to #eat5 by getting in at least five servings of fruits + veggies each day, but this little healthy habit of ours is made even easier come strawberry season! not only is this ruby-red fruit sweet + juicy, it’s also low in sugar and loaded with nutrients. in fact, just one 1-cup serving contains half your daily recommended vitamin C, not to mention these beautiful berries are brimming with antioxidants that promote eye health and help prevent cancer. but wait, there’s more! they also help ward off wrinkles, lower bad cholesterol, reduce inflammation, help regulate blood pressure and boost your fiber intake.

and one of our favorite ways to enjoy this vitamin + mineral-packed powerhouse? this smoothie bowl. it’s packin’ all the major strawberry flavor and chocolatey-shell goodness you enjoy in a really delicious chocolate-covered-strawberry, with none of the dairy or refined sugar. sounds like a pretty sweet deal to us.

[chocolate-covered-strawberry smoothie bowl]

serves 1


¼ cup chilled full-fat coconut milk 

1 cup frozen strawberries

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 tsp chia seeds

chocolate sauce:

2 tbsp coconut oil, melted

1 tbsp raw cacao powder

1 tsp maple syrup


2-3 fresh strawberries, sliced

1 tbsp chilled full-fat coconut milk

  1. the night before, place your can of coconut milk in the fridge to chill (the top layer of milk will become thick like whipped cream).
  2. when you open the can in the morning, scoop the thick layer of coconut cream off the top, reserving 1 tbsp for your smoothie bowl topping + ¼ cup for the smoothie base (save the liquid for use in another smoothie).
  3. in a blender, blend ¼ cup chilled coconut milk + frozen strawberries + vanilla + chia seeds until smooth.
  4. to make chocolate sauce, put melted coconut oil + cacao powder + maple syrup in a protein shaker or jar + shake to combine.
  5. pour smoothie into a small bowl, then top with fresh strawberries + coconut cream + drizzle chocolate sauce over the top. the chocolate will harden up just like a chocolate-covered-strawberry!
