5 things to give mom that money can't buy [giveaway]

george washington once famously said, “all i am i owe to my mother.” we feel ya, george. mothers make the world go ‘round. so this mother’s day, why not give your mama what she really wants? quality time with you! there are plenty of things you can do together that will keep you happy + healthy (that won’t break the bank). and you know we are all about fitting in fitness wherever you can! you can spend time with mom while simultaneously holding each other accountable to your health + fitness goals. having an accountability buddy ups your chances of reaching your goals, and who better to be yours than mama, the woman who’s held you accountable since birth?? need ideas? here are 5 healthy ways to celebrate mom’s big day - together:

[plant an herb garden]
so what’s a well-rested mother-daughter (or son) duo to do now that spring has sprung? get outside + do some plantin’! an herb garden is a good way for even the brownest of thumbs to get results. it’s cheap, it’s easy to plant + grow, and every time you go out to clip some fresh herbs, you’ll think of one another. awwwwwwww!!

[be lazy bums]
let’s face it, it’s probably been a loooong time since you curled up next to your mama in bed. but you wanna know something? odds are, those times are still some of her most cherished memories. head over early (with yummy brunch pastries + coffee in-hand) for a little long-overdue snuggle time with mom + drift off to dreamland together. we all know plenty of sleep is crucial for optimum health, but did you know that getting plenty of cuddles releases feel-good oxytocin + boosts your immune system??

[go for a hike]
but don’t let the outdoor fun stop there! take full advantage of a gorgeous may day by hitting the local trails for a little hike with mom. you can gab your way through a killer cardio sesh set against nature’s backdrop. check here for local trail listings. idea: pack a healthy picnic to enjoy hillside!

[shop 'til you drop]
wet weather keeping you inside? don’t let the rain spoil your mother’s day fun! get those steps in by doing a lap or two around the local mall, even if you’re just window shopping. you’ll get plenty of walking/talking time + you’ll increase your odds of hitting 10k steps for the day. treat mom to a fancy-schmancy coffee drink while you're at it to fuel her energy for shopping!

[cook together]
put those herbs to good use by rollin’ up those sleeves + getting your collaboration on in the kitchen. plan a menu with mom's fave foods + hit up the local farmer’s market together to shop for ingredients. you’ll soak up more vitamin D + get a few more steps in. plus, eating locally is not only better for the environment, it’s also cheaper + more nutritious.

to show just how much we appreciate mamas and all that they do, we are celebrating by giving away two fitbook lites - one for you + one for mom! all you have to do is tell us one reason you're grateful for your mama (or someone who shows you mama-like LOVE!) in the comments below. we'll randomly pick one winner this monday [05.09.16], so get to showing' your gratitude, goal getters!

I’m grateful that my mother is such a hard worker and is dedicated. She has instilled in me that hard work doesn’t come easy, but you should take great pride in what you can accomplish. It has motivated me to take on a career and pushed me to continue my education.

I am lucky that I have 3 women I considered my moms. The first is my birth mother who when unable to care for me, gave me to her sister to raise. She remained an important part of my life to this day. The second is my aunt who raised me as her own. Finally, as a teen I met a wonderful woman, my friends mother, who remained in my life and treated me and my children as family. She showed me love and taught me so much. I am truly blessed.

My mom is an amazing, hard working, strong and loving person. My mom’s 1st husband, whom passed from cancer at home, leaving her to raise their 5 children, ages 4-12. 10 years later she met my father and I use that term loosely. He left her with 2 more children, ages 2-4, he also took the money left by her 1st husbands life insurance policy for her 1st 5 children. My entire childhood my mom worked 2 & 3 jobs and took in laundry and housekeeping jobs to support us and give us everything we needed. My mom is the bravest/strongest woman I know. She is selfless in caring for her children, grandchildren and even her great grandchildren. She will do without to make sure that all of us have what we need.
